Peer reviewing content (2i check)

Peer review, sometimes called a 2i check, helps content designers ensure content meets naturalresouces.wales standards.

Content that reaches the 2i check stage:

Prepare for a 2i check 

The drafter should publish the content in the test site. This helps the reviewer experience the content in context. 

Agree how you will communicate changes. This could be by email, conversation or Teams message.

Check page title

Titles must be:

  • clear and specific
  • optimised for search
  • under 65 characters (including spaces)
  • unique within the site (check internal search results)
  • in sentence case
  • written in plain English (no jargon)

Check subtitle

Subtitles appear in internal search results. They should:

  • expand on the title without repeating it
  • help users decide if it's relevant to them
  • be written in full sentences
  • be front-loaded with words users are likely to search for
  • be written in plain English (no jargon)
  • explain any acronyms in the title
  • be fewer than 140 characters (including spaces)

Check body text

Body text should:

  • begin with what’s most important to users (not to NRW)
  • use the active voice
  • use short sentences
  • be concise and easy to scan (with sub-heads every 3-5 paragraphs)
  • be written in plain English (no jargon) and easy to understand
  • contain no FAQs
  • contain links which take users to the content they expect to find
  • define acronyms and abbreviations the first time they’re used
  • explain any technical terms

Style guide checks

Check the content against the style guide, remembering there should be:

  • a lead-in line for bullet points, start each point with a lower case letter and do not use full stops
  • descriptive links (not ‘click here’)
  • no bold, italics, CAPS, semicolons, underlining or exclamation marks
  • email addresses in full, in lower case and as active links
  • telephone numbers as active links
