Water companies: self-report water pollution
Water companies must use this service to self‑report any water discharge that could cause, is causing, or has caused pollution.
When to report
You must report as soon as you can. This means within two hours and not later than 24 hours of finding the problem.
You may not need to self-report if you:
- detect an issue but have no evidence of a polluting discharge
- can respond quickly to prevent a polluting discharge
- are confident that pollution has not occurred (for example, it's a telemetry communication issue only)
If in doubt, report it.
