Apply for a protected species licence

You must have a licence from Natural Resources Wales if your work could affect a protected species in Wales.

This could include:

disturbing, trapping or handling a protected species
damaging or changing their habitat, for example when restoring a pond or building a housing development

You may need to show that the work is necessary and that there is no other way to do it without affecting the protected species.

We may refuse your application if the work is not essential or if the harm it would cause is not justified.
