Renew a wildlife licence

Use this service to renew an existing species licence.

Renewed licences are normally issued for a two-year period, as long as previous licence reports were submitted on time.

You can apply to renew your licence up to six weeks before it expires.

 

What you can renew

You can renew a licence issued for:

• science, research or education
• controlling birds to protect air safety
• conservation
• photography

For another purpose, you must apply for a new licence.

 

What you can change when renewing

You can update:

• the lead licensee's contact details
• the techniques and equipment you plan to use

 

What you cannot change when renewing

• You cannot add new species when renewing a licence
• If you need to add species, you must apply for a new licence

 

Before you start

You will need:

• the number of the licence you want to renew
• the lead licensee's contact details
• the names and contact details of any licensed accredited agents
  • agents listed on your previous licence will not be added automatically
• details of the techniques and equipment you plan to use
• to tell us if anyone named in the application has been convicted of a wildlife offence or an animal welfare related offence 

 

Documents to upload

You will need to upload:

• the end of licence report for any surveys carried out under this licence
• the latest wildlife hazard management plan (if renewing a bird control licence for airport safety)

 

How long it takes

It can take up to 40 working days to process a renewal application. 

We will start processing the application when we have all the information we need and the correct payment has been received.

 

Charges

There is a fixed charge of £142 to renew a licence unless you qualify for a licence fee waiver.
