Process for proposing to undertake a conservation translocation

Step 1

Read the IUCN guidelines and the Conservation translocation code for Wales. [link]

Step 2

Complete a project scoping form [link] to assess the risks and benefits on the translocation and to test the feasibility of the proposal.

The form assists the project leads to review the risks and benefits of the proposed translocation in relation to conservation, socio-economic, biological and legislative.

It recognises that some conservation translocations will be low risk and has been designed as a screening form. Where applicable these projects will receive feedback/advice and guidance at this stage and be able to proceed, provided all other permissions are in place.

Where project proposals have been identified as medium or high-risk projects, proposers will need to complete a project proposal form. [link]

Step 3

Does the proposal require a species licence? (clicking yes or no as appropriate will take the proposer to the correct procedure).

Yes: complete the project proposal form and submit along with the application for the appropriate species licence.

No: complete the project proposal form and any supporting information.
