Licences you need from us to sell live or dead wild birds.

Check the general licences

We have two general licences for selling wild birds.

You do not need to apply for a general licence.

You must read it fully and be able to comply with all of the terms and conditions.

General licence 010: Licence to permit the sale of certain captive bred species of live bird.

General licence 012: Licence to sell dead wild birds.

If you cannot comply with the general licence conditions, you must apply for a specific bird licence.

Reporting your activities

If you carry out activities under General licence 012 (selling dead wild birds), you must send an annual report to us.

By 31 December each year you must tell us about any bird or bird part that has not previously been sold.

We need to know:

  • how you acquired each bird or part or product of the bird
  • the type and number of each species sold
